i've been looking at beginning directX books to fill in the some of the gaps. right now i am really liking Frank Luna's Introduction to 3D Game Programming with DirectX 9.0. its doing a great job of explaining alot of basic 3D concepts that i had missed. e.g. i now know what 'u' and 'v' represent. the book is C++, but David Goben ported the code samples to C#.
